Kathmandu: Kailash Sirohiya, Chairman of Kantipur Publications, was arrested on Tuesday by police from the Valley Crime Investigation Office, Kathmandu. The arrest was carried out by a team led by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Sanuram Bhattarai and Superintendent of Police (SP) Rabindra Regmi at Sirohiya's office in Thapathali, Kathmandu.
SP Regmi stated that Sirohiya was apprehended for an investigation related to a citizenship issue, with plans to transport him to Janakpur for further inquiry. Following his arrest, Sirohiya expressed strong objections, citing his willingness to cooperate with government agencies in the investigation.
Earlier on Tuesday, a single bench of Judge Chitra Bahadur Gurung of the Dhanusha District Court had issued an arrest warrant against Sirohiya. In response, Sirohiya filed a petition at the Supreme Court (SC) on the same day, seeking to annul the Dhanusha District Court's order.
SC Information Officer Govinda Prasad Ghimire stated that a decision on whether to register Sirohiya's writ petition would be made on Wednesday. The District Police Office in Dhanusha requested the court's approval to arrest Sirohiya after discovering that his citizenship number matched that of another individual.
